Fall 2014 Plant Sale

Many thanks to the community for helping to make our Fall 2014 Plant Sale a great success!!  If you missed us, here are some details that will whet your appetite for the Spring 2015 Sale (first weekend in May)!

The Merritt College Landscape Horticulture Department’s Fall Plant Sale was held the second weekend in October — October 11 and 12, 2014.

  • Saturday October 11, 9am-3pm — Plant Fair and Harvest Festival;  Plants, Food, Music, and Vendors.
  • Sunday October 12, noon-3pm — Plants Only.

On Saturday, our Plant Fair was accompanied by Food, Music and Vendors.  Companies represented included The Urban Farmer Store, Exotica Nursery and Hida Tool.

Plants available included:

  • Heirloom annual fall and winter vegetable starts:  over 150 varieties, including Kale, Broccoli and Cauliflower, and many types of Chard, Cabbage, Collards, as well as fall greens and salad crops.
  • Unusual winter greens from Kitazawa Seeds.
  • Rare fog-tolerant grapes like Emeryville Pink, Glenora, Baharat Early, Venus and Early Muscat.
  • Unusual perennial greens like Okinawa Spinach, New Zealand Spinach, Perennial Arugula, Tree Collards and more.
  • Unique perennial and Andean vegetables:  Yacon, Mashua, Oca.
  • Attractive edible fruiting shrubs:  Chilean Guava, lemon Guava, Elderberry, Mora de Castilla, Maqui Berry, Red and White Currants, Jostaberry.
  • Cool-summer adapted fruiting trees and vines like:  Hardy Kiwi, Olallieberry and many other Berries, Figs, and Trovita Orange.
  • A wide selection of Four Winds plants such as Dwarf Citrus, Avocados and Blueberries at affordable prices.
  • Permaculture guild builders like Leucaena, Comfrey, Horseradish, and more.
  • An amazing selection of culinary and medicinal herbs like Ashwaganda, Elecampane, Meadowsweet, Licorice, Skullcap, Mitsuba, Valerian, Pleurisy Root and many more!
  • A wide variety of ornamental and edible ornamental plants: California natives (including edible natives), Mediterranean climate plants (Australia, South Africa, Chile) and unusual perennials.
