Thanks for attending Field Day 2015

Introducing Field Day in 2015!  Come participate in workshops to learn about tool use and safety, career and academic options and more.  Demonstrations will include both power and hand tools, and we’ll even have large equipment on site…a crane and bucket for tree pruning and a bobcat.

  • When?  Friday, March 27, 2015, 8 am.
  • Where?  Merritt College Landscape Horticulture Department
  • Registration?  Not required but highly recommended.   If you register by March 15th, we’ll provide lunch!  [registration form withdrawn.]

ABOUT FIELD DAY 2015:

Event:  a half-day horticultural field seminar

Purpose: Create awareness for our students and community partners regarding safety, maintenance and repair with landscaping equipment, and provide students with access to career opportunities.

Schedule:
8:00-8:30 am – Registration/refreshments (Landscape Horticulture Dept building entry)
8:30-9:15 am – Session I (LH Dept grounds)
9:30-10:15 am – Session II (LH Dept grounds)
10:30-11:30 am – Session III (LH Dept grounds) & Evaluations
11:30-1:00 pm – Lunch & Career/Tools Expo (Meadow Area/Tool Rm/Pkg Lot)

Sessions:  Each of the sessions below will be provided concurrently in each time slot.  Attendees will be split into three groups; everyone will be able to attend all sessions.

  1. Power equipment.  Echo tool pack & traditional landscape tools of the trade.
  2. Large equipment.  Chipper, boom truck.
  3. Career Panel.  East Bay Regional Parks and City of Oakland (in Room H105).

  • Hida Tool – sharpening station for complementary tool sharpening
  • Single Cylinder Repair – tips
  • Oakland Rentals
  • Urban Farmer
  • Ewing Irrigation
