Floral Design Classes for Spring 2015

We’ve got several great floral design classes coming up soon.  These are fee-based classes; contact Maril at the Horticulture Department, (510) 436-2418, for more information.  The selection of classes for Spring 2015 includes:

LH 842 – Wedding Bouquets II

  • Monday evenings; 6 pm – 8:50 pm; April 13 – May 4 (4 sessions); Room H-105
  • Class Fee: $85.  Materials Fee: $30.  Students provide their own materials and containers for class design assignments.
  • Kay Wolff, Instructor

Create round, cascade, teardrop and presentation style bouquets using hand tied and bouquet holder techniques. Extended study on color theory. Cross application of beautiful centerpieces and home use.

LH 825 – Introduction to Floral Design

  • Monday evenings; 6 pm – 8:50 pm; Jan 26 – March 23 (8 sessions; no class on Monday, February 16); Room H-105
  • Class Fee: $150.  Materials Fee: $30.  Students provide their own materials and containers for class design assignments.
  • Kay Wolff, Instructor

This course includes identification of materials, basic design styles, theory, and trends. Practical application includes designing traditional and contemporary design shapes and styles. Floral design courses help designers establish an understanding of the elements and principles of design while discovering their own design style.

LH 820 – Ikebana

  • Wednesday evenings; 6 pm – 8:50 pm; Jan 21 – March 25 (10 sessions); Room H-105
  • Class Fee: $180.  Materials Fee: $35.  Students provide their own materials and containers for class design assignments.
  • Optional textbook ($45) available in class.
  • Kay Wolff, Instructor

An overview, understanding and appreciation of Japanese style flower arrangement through the study of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. Development of the designer’s discerning eye and the practice of dividing space creatively.
